We've been catering for Oktoberfest for many years now and we pride ourselves in serving outstanding dishes that all our customers love.
But Katja has memories from when she first attended her first Oktoberfest party and being of German origin this is something she'll never forget.
She was 25 the first time she went to the famous festivity. Having lived in London since the age of 16 this was not an opportunity she had the pleasure of having as often as she would have liked to.
Obviously Oktoberfest is big in Germany but we must also say that it hasn't been popular in the UK (as in REALLY popular) til recent years.
It is in the last 10 years or so that Oktoberfest has slowly but surely picked up in the UK. We remember when Shoreditch was dancing around in dirndls when the first big Oktoberfest party took place (East London). it was a lot of fun and Bish Bash Bangers attended, of course! We had been operating for less than a year and this was an extremely exciting opportunity for us.
Here's a pic:
And then we catered for Oktoberfest in Brick Lane:
Over the years we've seen how the UK embraces more and more this great festivity and we are so proud to be able to add a helping hand as we truly know live Oktoberfest in our hearts.
Find below Katja's own words around this festivity:
"The difference between Oktoberfest in the UK and Oktoberfest in Germany is mainly that in Germany you get the real thing, the 'real feeling' of Oktoberfest. It starts with the right beer, the right food and, of course, the right music. People dress up in real dirndl and lederhosen. Food can be different on Oktoberfest... Some offer Leberkase und Kraut Salat... But bratwurst is always a must. Bratwurst mit Senf und Brötchen.
Now I’m the UK I can see the Oktoberfest is mainly trying to copy the one in Munich. Which, in a nutshell means getting beer benches and tables, an oompah band (which by the way are never German speaking people I find...) Even though the beer might be German what has happened at times is that I've seen the party is called an "Oktoberfest beer party".
Regarding food, I can’t remember having seen proper dishes on some of the Oktoberfest parties I've been to here in the UK, perhaps a pretzel you could buy at some stall. The other Oktoberfest party had us (Bish Bash Bangers) prepared the German dishes and so it was as authentic as it could get...
I have seen people having a good time on most of the Oktoberfest I've been to but people that have been to Munich before and then attended Oktoberfest here in the UK have been really disappointed.
I think serving pretzels is and bratwurst mit senf and sauerkraut is a very good Oktoberfest menu!! People love their bratwurst over here!
I think having Bish Bash bangers at people Oktoberfest is a beautiful touch because I’m german. Our products are from Germany and we have the spirit. And that's all you need, really."
There you go! Bish Bash Bangers can bring authenticity to your Oktoberfest party!
