Anyway, this week we're covering the topic of German catering service in general. As a German (you), I'd LOVE to know your views.
Hmm (Katja thinks...) I think in London you don't have a lot of German catering. WEll... as I mean, I haven't really seen much except the famous ones.
That's true actually, because, I remember always wanting to have proper german food and never knowing where to go in London!
It's true; and there used to be a German restaurant in Queensway, Bayswater...

...and I went there and it wasn't all that so i wouldn't really recommend it. Then there's another one in London Bridge (I went there twice). It was a disappointment but bear in mind that I know as well it is not run by a German. It's owned by an English person.

Cause I was expecting it to be a German person running a german restaurant, cooking from scratch..
So basically what you're saying is that a restasurant from a particular country should be run by someone from that country...
I think so, yeh.
So back to the german catering services, what would you recommend someone like me to do? In terms of wanting to have proper German food and let's say I was in London not knowing where to go...
Type in 'German food' in Google and see what comes up. Obviously the most popular ones like Herman ze German you can rely on.
There's another one in Old street, Bavarian House, but I've heard good things about it. I think it's more about drinking, etc. Oktoberfest sort of thing. I don't know about the food. I don't know if it's owned by a German person.
So in general you'd say the choices in London from German food are kind of poor?
I think so, yes; especially compared to other cultures
You find lots of other cuisines like Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Indian, you name it. But when it comes to German, not a very big choice, no.
So here's where you come in handy. I know that Bish Bash Bangers is not really about proper German dishes in general, but it caters for the real fast food in Berlin.
To be honest I have just started the business and for me at the moment I just want to start off with the bratwurst and currywurst. Obviously in Berlin at takeaway places where you buy currywurst they offer you many other dishes (little extras) like potato salad, pasta salad, hmm... roasted potatoes... you name it. But for now we just want to concentrate on selling our famous currywurst, bratwurst and jumbo melt (frankfurter with yummy emmental cheese inside).
So would you say that someone hiring your services would get the REAL German experience?
WEll, yes! Bratwurst is still traditional food and so is currywurst. You sill taste the experience of German food even though I don't offer schnitzel and the other extras (well, not yet).
Your stall comes packed with the German feel (the music, the sauces, the branding, you're from Berlin....)
Yes. I am German and that's also another touch because what I have noticed is that sometimes you don't get world food cooked and served by a person from that particular country.
Just to finish, if you had to choose ONE place in Germany (since you're not really impressed by the ones in London), where you would go and have German food, where would that be?
Herman Ze German. Yes. Plus he is very local 🙂
